Science experiments in P1

In P1 we have been doing some experiments as part of our World Around Us learning. In the pictures you can see the children made and observed how a snowman was going to change from morning until hometime. They had to predict if he would change shape, or if he would stay the same. They  also made predictions as to how long it might take him to melt and how much he was going to have melted by hometime. The children named their snowman and helped to decorate him with a scarf eyes and nose. By hometime he had melted a little bit, but the next morning when the children came in they were sad to see their new friend had totally melted. Some of the children’s predictions were right!

The childen also took part in another experiment where they had to predict if an ice-cube or cadburys button would melt first on the hands. This was lots of fun. The children felt each others hands and talked about who had hot or cold hands, and this helped them to decide how fast or slow their ice-cube and button would melt. The best part was eating the buttons afterwards.
