P5 children take part in Fire Safety training given by the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS).
All Primary 5 children have completed a Fire Safety training programme from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS). The children learned how to keep their home and their family safe from dangers. The Police and Community Safety Partnership created a video to help deliver these messages along with an information pack for each pupil take home. The pack included fun games, a quiz and a door hanger inside.
Accidental fires in the home have increased since the beginning of COVID-19. Accidental fires are often caused by cooking, electrics, candles and careless use of smoking material.
STOP was the message used to help the children remember how to keep safe in their homes. They are checking the battery on their smoke alarm every Friday and have set a reminder to change the battery on their birthday every year. The children had to plan an escape route with their family in case of a fire in their homes.
