Northern Ireland school kids have revealed their best jokes at Stormont as part of a competition to improve communication skills. The 'Voice Box Champion' for the competition's fourth year was Lily Barlow from Holywood in Co Down.
Lily's winning joke was: An inflatable boy went to an inflatable school, with inflatable pupils and inflatable teachers. One day he ran amok with a drawing pin.
Pssssst! Psssssst! Pssssst! Psssssst!
The deflated principal called him into her study and said, "You’ve let me down, you’ve let yourself down and you’ve let EVERYONE down!"
Primary school pupil Lily Barlow, from Holywood in Co Down, made the final and Lily's Joke impressed the judging panel which included the BBC's Chris Page; Anne Gamble, The Royal College Of Speech & Language Therapists and Fergus Cooper of Save the Children.
A huge 2000 pupils submitted their favourite jokes as part of an initiative to raise awareness of the importance of good speech, language and communication skills for future success in education and working life.
Fionn was selected as one of 10 primary school finalists and represented Fermanagh
Journalist Eamonn Mallie compered the event and it was hosted by Stormont Speaker Mitchel McLaughlin.
Mr McLaughlin MLA said “It was wonderful to bring this event back to Parliament Buildings for a fourth time. Since taking on the role of Speaker I have been acutely aware of the fundamental role that communication plays in all aspects of school life.
