Manock Primary School Robotics competition

4th Apr 2025

P7 pupils, Raed, Sarah, Enya, Ronan, and Connor took part in the recent Mannok Robotics primary school’s competition.  As part of the competition the group were given a box of Lego parts, with very few instructions.  They were asked to build a working robot with a trailer.  The pupils, with help from their teacher Mr Dooris, spent time over the past few weeks designing, building and testing their robot in preparation for the competition. The practiced coding the robot to move it in different directions and to lift small objects.

On Friday then went to Mannok with their robot to compete against several other schools in a coding challenge.  They had to write the code to move their robot around a road map and move several objects to a specified location.  The team whose robot completed the journey in the shortest time were the winners.  Each team had several attempts at the journey, the judges scoring each run.

On the day the team had issues with a failing battery and a frozen app, so sadly they didn’t win.   They did however show great resilience, fixing each problem they encountered and making another attempt.  Well done to the team for their fantastic design and for their excellent coding skills.  Thank you to Mr Dooris for helping the children take part in the competition, a fantastic opportunity for them all. 👏👏
