Holy Trinity awarded Eco Schools Green Flag

27th May 2016
Holy Trinity awarded Eco Schools Green Flag

Holy Trinity has been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag.

Mrs Gormley has worked very hard over the past year to make our school more Eco Friendly.  The school focused on the following 4 areas:

  • Litter
  • Saving energy
  • Transport
  • Healthy Eating

Each class is very aware of the importance of recycling paper in the green bins.  Nominated pupils are in charge of managing the bins and making sure they are emptied when necessary.

At KS2 pupils took part in initiatives to encourage walking, cycling or scooting to school.  These initiatives, Ditch the Dark and Active Challenge days, were organised by SUSTRANS.  Pupils were encouraged to think about how they travelled to school.  The school was awarded a new bike rack by SUSTRANS.

The school encourages healthy eating across all year groups, this was also recognised by the Eco Assessors.

Finally our 'Lights Off' campaign and Scheduled Shut Downs in ICT Suites means our school is working hard to save energy.  This energy saving effort also helped us achieve our award.

The school is delighted to have earned the Eco Green Flag, it is a great achievement.  Thank you to Mrs Gormley for all her work and encouragement.
